Having now seen several episodes of season three, WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL WERE THEY THINKING WITH THE COSTUMES. WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA?
First two seasons? Beading. Embroidery. Regency silhouettes. Costuming talent.
Season three looks like they put everyone in cheap prom dresses from JC Penny and then got fanciful. I gave two words for you: PLASTIC SEQUINS.
Ugh. Where are all the costume design nerds who were geeking out about Game of Thrones vs Tolkien adaptations a while back? I need to commiserate.

Reblogging for Grey Redux.
One Dress a Week Challenge
June: Grey
Suits (episode 312, "Yesterday's Gone") / Gina Torres as Jessica Pearson
I find the design of this dress fascinating. Vertically-placed asymmetrical elements were a thing in the early 2010s--the character wears another dress with a similar layout in the same episode, or see Sophie's white dress from Leverage (2011) for another example. The flap and tab on this dress manage to suggest a jacket and belt in a sort of shorthand or minimalist way. It's entirely appropriate for office wear at a major law firm, conservative and innovative at the same time. The necklace and bracelet add some discreet contrast.

Coeli's Picks: Men, part 3 (Dishonorable Mention)
Just in time for April Fool's Day, here are some truly eyebrow-raising and head-scratching costumes. I know neither of these shows had a huge budget, but that's no excuse.
Coeli's comments:
"If I had to look at them, so do you!"
Blake's 7 (s4e4, "Stardrive")
"Punk space pirates who totally fail to come across as menacing:"
Doctor Who (s10 e5, "Carnival of Monsters") / Leslie Dwyer as Vorg (and Cheryl Hall as Shirna)
No seriously, why is his costume Fruit Loops?

Talking to @ThePeakyGirl reminded me of these photos which the lady who created this dress posted. I would love to own this dress....

Several years ago when there was exhibit of costumes from this show in New York, I attended and took a bunch of photos (so hmu if anyone's looking for references!), but here are some more pictures that TV/historical costuming aficionados might enjoy.

If loki does get a new costume eventually. Will it look like the one he has in the avengers, or his sacred timeline self in a way
If I were the costume designer, I feel like the clothes Loki has been wearing up to this point was for someone else. His previous identity was stripped from the TVA.
In a way, he’s exposed and given a new identity. A prisoner. Someone who is often given very little respect or dignity.
Once he’s given a place in the TVA, only then he’s given a uniform… and a name of some sort. (Variant)
Who he was (Loki) is no longer important to the TVA. Note how they all call him “Variant” rarely do we hear “Loki” except from Mobius or Sylvie.
I have to wonder if they intentionally removed Loki’s jacket when he left the TVA and learned the truth from Sylvie. Maybe realizing that “variant” has no meaning anymore and doesn’t take it as an insult. I remember people mentioning Sylvie losing parts of her clothes the more she rejects the identity of being a Loki and I have to wonder if Loki was also reaching his own wardrobe metamorphosis as well.
I don’t think his change would be as obvious though. His would probably be subtle but very important for himself to attach a new identity to himself that is far from what the world expects of him.
With that said, I don’t see him wanting to incorporate any pieces from the TVA. It wasn’t a part of him that was authentic or something he had a say in. It was a part he had to play to survive and nothing more. I’d imagine the costume designers (if they chose to change his look) would probably go in the direction of the comics or put together something new. Something that signifies “this Loki is not your Loki.”
I would love to see Loki’s signature fur lined overcoat in his upgrade. I think it’s one of his best pieces in the comics that (apart from his helmet) differentiates AOA Loki from the rest. Idk how I feel about the green scale detailing. I hope they forego that and do something that’s different from what we’ve already seen.

Ivanova in shirtsleeves. S02E22, “The Fall of Night.”
When you’re used to seeing someone in a jacket all the time, shirtsleeves seem so... intimate.

Doctor Who fashion questions
I bet there are enough people interested in Doctor Who’s clothes and costumes to get this meme off the ground! Repost, tag friends, and answer:
favorite Doctor outfit, as in which one you think looks best as an outfit?
favorite Doctor outfit, as in which one you love because it fits the character/it makes you smile/etc?
most stylish companion in general?
favorite individual companion outfit?
super dated companion outfit that you love anyway?
least favorite companion outfit?
best ridiculous space clothes/side character getup?
should they keep The Orange Spacesuit or switch it up?
best Romana look? (lbr this has to be its own question, she’s an icon)*
what would you like to cosplay, if time and money were no object?
what could you most easily closet-cosplay right now if obliged to do so? (be honest! and give us a pic if you like! no pressure tho)
*If you’re doing this and you’re not a Classic Who fan, don’t worry! I’ll make it easy for you: the correct answer is “whatever it was she had going on in Full Circle.”
Tagging @fortes-fortuna-iogurtum and @ladyverachtung, plus anyone else who’d like to do it--seriously, I would love for lots of people to do this!
I don’t know @unprofessionalfashionreviews so I don’t feel comfortable tagging them in the meme itself, but I’m really enjoying their series of “Every Companion Outfit” reviews, which you should check out if you like the clothes of Who! (and if they see this and would like to do the meme, they’re of course welcome to!)
I’ll post my own answers in a bit :)

I used to be a real stickler for historical accuracy, but over the years, I've developed an appreciation for stylization as well. Which is a good thing for me because that seems to be the growing trend, especially with more and more movies being subject to time and budget constraints.
